Yes, in order to receive ABA services an official autism diagnosis is required by insurance companies.
A child can be diagnosed for autism through several professionals and programs. Common options include developmental pediatricians, child psychologists or neuropsychologists, and child psychiatrists, all of whom can conduct comprehensive evaluations. Families can also seek assessments through regional centers or early intervention programs (for young children).
Once the consultation is completed and all required documents are submitted to our front office, it will take approximately 4 to 6 weeks for your child to begin services. During this time, the initial assessment will be conducted, the assessment report will be completed, and the insurance requests and approvals will be processed.
The number of treatment hours depend on the recommendations made in the initial assessment. Your child may receive 2-6 hours of services per day, 4-6 days per week depending on treatment recommendations.
ABA services are voluntary and continuation of services will depend on client needs. Every six months, a progress report will be submitted to insurance/funding source. The report will include your child’s progress towards his/her goals, new proposed goals, new treatment recommendations, and/or treatment hours recommendations.
